The Underground Books Literary Arts Foundation

The Underground Books Literary Arts Foundation (UBLAF) is a 501(c)3 non-profit partner to Underground Books that enables us to exponentially increase our charitable activity in the community and offer tax deductible ways to support this work!

UBLAF’s mission is to provide free or low-cost literary programs that inspire creative thinking, the exploration of diverse perspectives, and the imagining of vibrant futures.

Through UBLAF, starting with a generous gift from the Thomas A. and Mary E. Dugan Foundation, we conduct targeted free book giveaways for students, educators, classrooms, and the general public with an emphasis on titles by diverse authors and/or important topical issues related to diversity, social justice, health, or environmental sustainability.

As we grow, we hope to level up by sponsoring author visits and talks, book clubs, or other related literary events, and we dream of organizing a community-wide Big Read, encouraging widespread reading of important literary works of topical social and cultural relevance in our community.

Do you have an opportunity for UBLAF to make a difference with literature, books, and reading? Contact us and our all-volunteer board at with a detailed proposal.
