The Brick & Mortar Bookstore

Underground Books is a charming antiquarian, rare, and used bookshop just off of historic Adamson Square in downtown Carrollton, Georgia. We aim to be a bibliophile's destination and a browser’s paradise, and with a fascinating and unusual collection of beautiful, uncommon, and thought provoking books, Underground Books is sure to leave the serious book lover dizzy with serendipitous finds. The bookstore is literally underground, and patrons must descend a short staircase to enter the shop.

We believe bookstores offer a vital physical setting for casual social interaction, thoughtful conversation, and the exercise of free thinking and the imagination. Underground Books regularly plays host to various live events in the store, including documentary screenings, author events, lectures, poetry readings, and more.

Underground Books is committed to creative reuse and upcycling, with journals made from damaged vintage books, magnets and pins made from their illustrations, and the shop’s signature piece, the book arch, made completely from books in poor condition.

Our Mission

Our mission is to foster a more literate and free-thinking West Georgia and to nurture the next generation of book lovers and collectors.

Our online store is intended as a space to highlight our more uncommon and rare books for a wider audience than the foot traffic we get on Adamson Square. Our online inventory is housed in private at Underground Books. If you are a local customer and would like to see an item from our website, please contact us, and we would be pleased to bring the item out for your viewing or purchasing convenience.

Hills & Hamlets Bookshop

In September of 2016, our sister store, Hills & Hamlets Bookshop, opened its doors in the nearby community of Serenbe. Located in the Atlanta metropolitan area within gorgeously rural Chattahoochee Hill Country, Serenbe is a New Urbanist community focused on the arts, agriculture, health & wellbeing, and education. With sections representing each of Serenbe's principles and the fiction, children's, and popular titles that make an indie bookstore great, Hills & Hamlets Bookshop offers a charming literary, intellectual, and cultural experience.
