An expanded edition followed in 1970–71, adding a fifth essay by Sidney Hook (“Academic Freedom and Academic Anarchy”) and issued in a different brown and gold geometric wrapper. This first issue collects M. M. Drachkovitch on the radicalization and fragmentation of the New Left, G. Warren Nutter on the economic aspects of freedom, Lewis S. Feuer on anarchy, authority, and human freedom, and Donald W. Treadgold on the varieties of totalitarianism. It is a period document of the organized bar’s Cold War “education about communism” program, answering the campus New Left at its height.
