Giants of the Rails

Garden City: Garden City Publishing Company, 1944.

Hardcover. 10" X 12". Unpaginated, 24pp. Rather heavy wear to pictorial dust jacket, with heavy chipping to edges, taped tears, and 2 1/2" closed tear to front panel, remarkably with few losses. Pictorial paper over boards with spine backed in black cloth. Moderate edgewear to boards. Wonderful pictorial endpapers diagramming the world's heaviest locomotive, the Union Pacific 4-8-8-7 Type, nicknamed "Big Boy" to front endpapers and the 2700 HP Diesel-Electric Freight Locomotive and 5400 HF combination to rear endpapers. Hinges a touch tender; binding remains sound. Pages are clean and unmarked. Stunningly illustrated in color throughout by Glen Thomas, this guide to the "giants of the rails" features accurate drawings in full color, descriptions of modern locomotives of every type, along with details of train, hand, flag, lamp, whistle, and automatic signals and cross-sections of the country's greatest engines. Very good / fair. Item #2887
