Item #17668 The Old Ursuline Convent of New Orleans, La. Roger Baudier.

The Old Ursuline Convent of New Orleans, La.

New Orleas: St. Mary's Church, 1955.

Pamphlet. 6" x 8.75". Four page pamphlet. Vertical crease, light foxing, else very good.

Inscribed on the title page: "With my priestly blessing, Fr. V. Liberto, O.M.I." — the signature of Father Vincent Liberto, O.M.I., Pastor of St. Mary's Church and the directing hand behind this publication, whose name appears on the title page itself. A true association copy, presented by the man who commissioned and oversaw the work, this copy from the papers and estate of author Laurraine Goreau. Compiled by Roger Baudier, Sr., K.S.G., the official historian of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, this pamphlet provides a concise documentary history of the oldest building in the Mississippi Valley: a chronological timeline of events from the Ursulines' 1727 arrival through 1919, a succession of the Bishops and Archbishops who officiated or resided at the Convent, and a survey of distinguished visitors ranging from Sieur de Bienville and General Andrew Jackson to St. Frances Xavier Cabrini and the family of President Theodore Roosevelt. Very good. Item #17668
