First Edition. Hardcover. 7 3/4" x 4 7/8". 263pp. Original 1866 edition professionally rebound in modern black cloth with the title in gilton the spine. Hardcover binding clean and tight. Bookplate of Allen B. Meadows on front pastedown. Two other previous owner names on title page, with scattered penciled marginalia through the text. Pages toned and a tad brittle, with occasional mild chipping at page edges.

A scarce first edition of this work, the purpose of which was to prove the south's "right of secession" and to clear the names of southern leaders facing charges of treason. Very good. Item #5932
