Heavy wear to binding, with both hinges cracked and attached by strings and webbing, hard edgewear to boards, corners bumped and bared, large tears to cloth over spine, and soiling to cloth. Previous owner's name and light soiling to patterned endpapers. Additional front and back page of shape note instruction laid in. Leaf of pages 205, 206 loose and laid in. An inarguably hard-used and poor copy, but present with us over a hundred years later, of this 1909 collection of hymns in shape note format, with 45 pages of an introductory guide to shape notes, over 220 hymns, and notes on the hymn-writers.
