Crock of Gold was a popular early 20th century comic novel blending philosophy and Irish folklore and featuring leprechauns and the god Pan, among other folkloric elements. The author, James Stephens, was a friend of James Joyce, who once suggested to Stephens that he help him finish Finnegan's Wake at a time he was struggling with it, but Joyce ended up finishing it on his own.
