New York: Charles L. Webster & Company, 1892.
First Edition. Hardcover. 5" x 6 1/2". 122pp. plus five pages of ads. Cream cloth cover boards, with culinary motif and steaming pan stamped in dark brown to upper board, lettered in taupe. Likely well used and loved in a kitchen, with dampstains and soiling to cloth, small tears to spine, and corners turned in. Hinges tender, with spine just visible at about halfway point of text block. Previous owner's name in ink on front endpaper. Stamp of "Quackenbush & Co. Book Dep't Paterson, N.J." on title page. Faint evidence of moisture to top right corner of early leaves. An admittedly worn but still very charming first printing of an uncommon and collectible cookbook by Alessandro Filippini (1849–1917), a chef at Delmonico’s Restaurant in New York for well over a quarter of a century, hired by Lorenzo Delmonico himself in 1849. Filippino was the author of The Delmonico Cookbook published in 1880 as well. Good. Item #5857
