A New Edition, from the Last London Edition, with Notes, Containing the most Important Cases decided in the Courts of the United States, and of the several States. Leather bound. 9" X 5 1/2". [i], viii, xxiii, 647pp. Bound in contemporaneous morocco, now in very poor condition. Upper board detached and rear attached only by exposed strings. Leather brittle, blistered, chipped, scuffed, torn, and scratched, with boards exposed and losses to head and tail of spine as well as to title label. Names and figures stamped, penned, and pencilled to endpapers, with occasional faint pencil mark to foxed and age-toned pages throughout. An undoubtedly ill-used but surviving 1817 printing of this early study of financial law by the English lawyer Joseph Chitty (1775–1841), founder of the Chitty dynasty of lawyers and author of several of the earliest practitioners' texts.
