Through an open door, down worn stone steps, a peek of an archway of books and magic floating through the air...Fine Artist Jill Williams' painting "Magic Underground" captures the quiet, starlit magic a bookstore can hold for those who treasure books and love to read.
Artist Jill Williams has been creating art for over 40 years and earned her BFA in Painting and Drawing, and BA in Art Education from the University of West Georgia. Her work includes watercolor painting, illustration, graphic design, mural painting, and stained glass. Jill is also an art instructor, regularly hosting and leading classes and workshops for adults.
A friend of Underground Books, Jill has generously donated her time and talents to support us as we face the unique challenges of caring for a small, high-touch, brick-and-mortar bookstore during the present health and financial crisis.
Only 50 produced, a limited edition of high quality art prints of "Magic Underground" are now available for sale, each signed and numbered by the artist. These prints are 6" x 9," on Arches Aquarelle paper, each one boarded and protected by an archival sleeve.
Williams' stunning watercolor captures a magical, whimsical, imaginary view peering down into Underground Books from the street. We imagine the scene taking place during a warm spring or summer evening, when the square is alive with life and people, and the inner warmth of the bookstore is generously pouring out onto the sidewalk outside, beckoning you to browse the wonders within. To us, it’s a vision of what has been and what will be. Item #5705
