A New Edition. Leather bound. 5 3/4" X 4 3/8". xxxii, 219pp; [ii], 205pp. Both volumes bound in full diamond-hatched calf, with spines lettered and decorated in gilt. Upper board entirely detached from Paradise Lost, Volume I. Heavy wear to both volumes, with hard rubbing to edges and extremities, particularly at exterior hinges, sunning and soiling to boards, and chipping to leather, particularly at spines. All edges marbled, with matched marbled endpapers. Original black silk placemarkers present. Previous owner's inscription pencilled to flyleaf of Pardise Lost, Volume I. Occasional spot of foxing or staining to pages, else unmarked. Illustrated throughout in stunning engravings for each "book" within each volume. Heavy toning to title page of Paradise Regain'd. An admittedly worn and incomplete set, containing Volume I of Paradise Lost, Paradise Regain'd, lacking Volume II of Paradise Lost, but still quite handsome, published in 1804 and containing all the original text and illustrations of Milton's magnum opus.
