Dove's English Classics. Leather bound. 5" X 3". xvi, [iii], 18-354pp. Bound in full early 19th century red calf, with spine stamped in gilt and lettered in kind over black leather title label. Moderate wear to binding, with corners bumped and turned in, stains to rear board, hard rubbing to exterior hinges, and open tear to head of spine. Lean to spine. Binding remains quite sound. Previous owner's pencilled gift inscription to front pastedown. Very occasional spot of foxing to pages, else clean and unmarked. An overall quite well preserved and thoroughly charming 1826 leatherbound pocket-size collection of these three important works of Eighteenth Century literature: Fables and Other Poems by John Gay (1685-1732), Visions in Verse by Dr. Nathaniel Cotton (1707-1788), and Fables for the Female Sex by Edward Moore (1712-1757), including brief biographies of the authors.
