Rust brown cloth over boards, with upper board handsomely stamped with early American scenes in black and spine lettered in black over gilt. Moderate wear to binding, with bumping and fraying to extremities, small tears to head and tail of spine, edgewear, and light soiling to cloth. Previous owner's name to flyleaf. Front hinge tender. Spine visible at gutter of pages 320 and 321; binding remains sound. Pages are clean and unmarked. A quite handsome circa 1880s edition of this novel of King Philip, also known as Metacomet, and colonial New England by author, lawyer, and Vermont Secretary of State Daniel Pierce Thompson (1795–1868).
