New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1934.

Twelfth Printing. Hardcover. 8 7/8" X 6 3/8". 354pp. Blue-green cloth over boards, with upper board and spine lettered in gilt. Rather heavy wear to binding, with heavy scattered rubbing to cloth, small tears to bumped corners, gilt faded to sunned spine, light soiling, and fraying to head and tail of spine. Red topstain. Previous owner's name and bookseller's ticket to front pastedown and beautiful pencil drawing to front free endpaper. Hinges tender. Binding remains sound. Pages are clean and unmarked. A solid and though admittedly worn, still quite handsome early American printing of secret agent R. H. Bruce Lockhart's (1887-1970) memoir of his failed attempt to sabotage the 1918 Bolshevik revolution in Moscow, the "Lockhart Plot", which was doomed by the fact that his co-conspirators were in fact double-agents. Good. Item #4418
