Gift inscription dated Christmas 1854 to front free endpaper. Pencilled notes to front endpapers. Foxing to frontispiece, tissue guard, and title page. All other pages facing the other eleven tissue-guarded plates show toning. Occasional faint spot of foxing to pages and plates, else unmarked. A lovely and solid 1852 printing of this stunning collection of essays by writers such as Washington Irving and James Fenimore Cooper, illustrated throughout in thirteen engravings specially made for this publication by H.
