First Edition. Leather bound. 9 1/4" X 6". xii, 740pp. Bound in full contemporary leather with black leather title label to spine lettered in gilt. Heavy edgewear, scattered rubbing, moderate soiling to binding, dampstain to upper board, and chipping to tail of spine. Binding is sound. Pencilled names to front free endpaper, both of Madison, Georgia, and one dated 1873. Small tear to front free endpaper. Foxing to pages throughout. Laid in is a photo-copy of a formula for "killing plaster," a cancer treatment, originally dated 1892, with a descendent's typewritten letter about the formula and transcription. A worn but quite solid copy of this medical dissertation by doctor, politician, and banker Tomlinson Fort (1787-1859) of Georgia. Good. Item #3668
