Moderate wear to binding, with hard bumping to bottom corners and head and tail of spine, creasing to spine, and sunning. Lean to spine. Binding is firm and sound. Pages are clean and unmarked. A solid first printing of this study of the Druce Case. In 1897, Anna Maria Druce claimed that John Bentinck, 5th Duke of Portland (1800-1879) had lived a double life as her father-in-law Thomas Charles Druce, faking his death in 1864 to retire to his true aristocratic life, making her son heir to his estate.
