New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1903.
Hardcover. 7 7/8" X 5". 348pp. Blue cloth over boards with dragonfly and floral design stamped in gilt, light blue, and green to upper board and spine. Moderate edgewear to binding with spot of rubbing to upper board. Hinges tender. Binding is sound. Beneath the striking Margaret Armstrong binding on this 1903 edition of Little Rivers lies a treasure trove of related material. Along with pasted in photographs, magazine clippings, and an inscribed calling card, a typed letter signed by the author tipped in to the rear pastedown. The letter, to George B. Wood of Dongan Hills, Staten Island, compliments the recipient on the quality of his photographs, comments on their respective children, and presents the book in hand.
A unique extra-illustrated copy of this collection of essays, poetry, and hymns by author, poet, diplomat, and clergyman Henry van Dyke, with inscribed card and signed typed letter. Very good. Item #2702
