Leather bound. 5 1/2" X 3 3/4". xii, 346pp. Three quarters leather with marbled paper over boards and spine lettered "The Elect" in gilt. Very heavy wear to binding, with heavy chipping and rubbing to leather and marbled paper, rubbed to boards in many places. Red topstain descending to midway down the fore-edge. Front hinge a touch tender, and beginning pages separating at bottom edge by 1/4". Pencilled marks to front free endpaper, with apparently contemporaneous sewing needle "sewn" in to paper. Moderate to heavy foxing and toning to pages throughout, all pages readable and words unobscured. Frontispiece portrait of Christ on the cross, with the Virgin Mary at his feet, some offsetting to title page. Several pieces of Catholic ephemera laid in throughout, including a very small pamphlet. Scarce. No holdings in OCLC. Only one holding found at time of posting, at the National Library of Ireland. Good. Item #2241
