Volumes I-III published 1888, Vol. IV of another edition published 1880 and appears to be ex-library, with notation to spine. Very dark red cloth over boards, with Vol. IV a slightly different color, with title labels to spine. Mild edgewear to bindings, with some mild scattered rubbing, light soiling, and gentle bumping to corners. Spines sunned and labels age-yellowed, with some chipping to edges of labels, no losses. Top edges gilt. Fold out map in very good condition. Portrait frontispiece to each volume, tissue-guarded to Vol. IV. Title page loose to Vol. II and laid in. Decorative paper covering library bookplate to Vol. IV. Very light occasional foxing to blank pages and endpapers, pages clean and unmarked. A solid, complete four volume set of this history of the United Netherlands by American diplomat and historian John Lothrop Motley.
