Hardcover. 7 1/2" X 5 1/8". 500pp. Brown cloth over boards, with cover and spine lettered in gilt with embossed decorations. Heavy edgewear and scattered rubbing to cloth, with head and tail of spine and corners bumped and rubbed to boards. Front hinge cracked, but holding. Rear hinge tender. All edges gilt. Lovely green floral endpapers, with bird motif. Binding remains sound. Pages are clean and unmarked. A quite worn, but attractive collection of interesting information compiled by Mrs. Branch Williams, beginning with short biographies and histories, such as the story of Laura Bridgman, "world-renowned" and "celebrated mute," and continuing through with short stories, practical advice like "How to Put Children to Bed" and "How to Keep a Piano," statistically backed information, humorous narratives, moral advice, religious stories, and poems.
