Leather_bound. 9 1/4" X 6 1/4". xxv, 272pp. Rather heavy wear to black leather over boards with rubbing, bumps, and scuffs to covers, corners, and edges. Hinges are cracked with leather missing and connective mesh visible. Boards are slightly warped. Three raised bands to spine. Gilt stamping at spine and front cover is rubbed and faded in some spots. Spotting to all-edges gilt. Pink sewn-in silk ribbon appears to have been cut short. Foxing to endpapers. Faint musty smell to pages. Pages are free of marks and notation. Binding is sound. Due to wear this volume is a reading copy only.

Taken from the years well before and during the Anglo-Boer War, William Finaughty, one of the great, early ivory hunters told his African adventures to a publisher who owned the pioneer paper The Rhodesian Journal. Finaughty was an adventurer, rogue, and hunter extraordinaire, who survived the death that awaited many early elephant hunters, bagging over five hundred tuskers in five years, as well as living through the intrigues with which the early South Africa was fraught.'Bill' Finaughty even shot five elephants with four bullets, a feat that is typical of this book.(Publisher).
