Philadelphia: Masonic Publishing Company, 1877.
Hardcover. An admittedly worn but solid and still quite charming near-pocket-size 1877 collection of descriptions of the chief Abbeys and Cathedrals of the British Isles, including their origin, architectural character, exact location and present condition, together with some romantic incidents in their history, illustrated in a tissue-guarded frontispiece and 6 plates.
5 3/4" X 3 7/8". 148pp. Bound in dark maroon-brown cloth over boards, with decorative border in black to boards and upper board and spine lettered in gilt. Rather heavy surface wear to binding, with bubbling to cloth at rear board, small tears to corners and tail of spine, chipping to head of spine, scattered rubbing, and lean to sun-faded spine. Front hinge a touch tender. Binding remains sound. Yellow endpapers. Pages are gently and uniformly age-toned, else clean and unmarked. Illustrated in 7 plates. Good. Item #13333
