Hard bumping to edges, head and tail of spine, and corners, with rubbing through to boards at corners. Both hinges cracked. Bookplate to front pastedown, bookseller notations penciled to front free endpaper, rear pastedown and flyleaf. Front endpaper replaced, rear endpapers heavily soiled. Tissue guard missing from heavily foxed and toned frontispiece, with front hinge starting there. Text block remains sound. Pages are unmarked. Frontispiece and three plate illustrations by George Cruikshank, hailed in his time as "the modern Hogarth" and illustrator for many of Charles Dickens' novels. Fair. Item #1317
