Paperback. An admittedly worn but solid and readable collection of 11 illustrated chapbooks for children from the 1850s published by Leavitt & Allen.
3 5/8" X 2 1/4" each. 16pp each. Bound in sewn printed wraps with vignette illustration to upper wrap. Moderate wear to bindings, with dust soiling, staining foxing, toning, light creasing to wraps. Most bindings show open tears or splitting to spine, in each case reinforced with archival adhesive. Archival adhesive repairs to bindings of The Sailor and Other Stories, The Boy and his Pets, The Scarecrow and Other Stories, Book of Trades, General Marion and Other Stories, Book of Sports, Child's Book of Generals, and The Girl and Her Pets and Other Stories. Open tears to upper wrap of The Girl and Her Pets and Other Stories, extensively to rear wrap of The Sailor and Other Stories, and extensively to upper wrap, with losses, of Child's Book of Generals. Inked price to rear of The Sailor and Other Stories; occasional pencilled price to interior of chapbooks. Pencilled ownership to front pastedown of Book of Sports, dated 1868. Occasional crease to age-toned but otherwise unmarked pages. Each generously illustrated in vignette illustrations throughout.
