Bound in beautifully-decorated emerald green cloth with all gilt edges and a ruby red border on every page, this circa 1895 collection is a veritable treasure chest full of "sacred gems" from the pens of such celebrated poets as Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Robert Burns, Lord Byron, Coleridge, Donne, Milton, Tennyson, Wordsworth, and many more, illustrated in a tissue-guarded frontispiece and 5 dramatic black and white plates throughout.
7 3/4" X 5 1/8". xvii, 411pp. Bound in emerald green cloth over boards, with elaborate floral illustrations, with accompanying butterfly, in black and bright gilt to upper board, lettered in gilt to upper board and spine, and decorated in blind to rear board. Moderate wear to binding, with bumping to corners, small tears to head and tail of spine, light scattered rubbing, and faint white mark to upper board. All edges gilt. Small spots of paper and glue residue to russet coated endpapers--possibly removal of bookplates. Rear hinge a touch tender. Binding is firm and sound. Pages are clean and unmarked.
