Paperback. Offered here is a signed and inscribed copy of an 1849 sermon entitled "A Sermon Delivered in the New North Church, in Boston, Jan. XXVIII. 1849, on Resigning His Pastoral Charge" by Boston congregational minister Reverend Francis Parkman Sr. (1788-1852), father of the famed historian and author of The Oregon Trail, as well as a portfolio of related research and correspondence conducted in the 1990s by a previous owner.

9 1/4" X 5 3/4". 28pp. Inscribed by Francis Parkman at top margin of upper wrap: "Mrs. Williams/ with best regards/ of F.P." Rather heavy wear to sewn binding, with dampstain to top margin of wraps and to first and last pages, considerable chipping to spine, and creases to corners. Binding remains quite sound. Inked note to page 18 and pencilled note to verso of rear wrap. Accompanied by a worn and annotated 11 3/4" X 9 1/4" folder including: previous owner's 1994 correspondence with Massachusetts Historical Society (7 pages, including photocopies of examples of Francis Parkman Sr.'s initials), two photocopies of the front cover of the sermon, a photocopy of a photograph of Francis Parkman Jr., a four-page article on Francis Parkman Jr. by educator Neil Yetwin, information on Francis Parkman Jr.'s Boston home, and a pamphlet from Mount Auburn Cemetery in Boston.
