"...a key to unlock the door that leads to the deeper study," this is an admittedly worn but still attractive second and revised American edition of 1896 of Madame Blavatsky's The Key to Theosophy. Helena Petrovna Blavatsky (1831–1891) is credited with introducing much of eastern philosophy and spiritual thinking to the West and the cofounder of the Theosophical Society in New York City in 1875. The Key to Theosophy is an introduction in question-and-answer format to Theosophical mysticism and esoteric doctrine and covers Theosophy and the Theosophical Society, Nature of the Human Being, Life After Death, Reincarnation, Kama-Loka and Devachan, the Human Mind, Practical Theosophy, and the Mahatmas.

8" X 5 1/4". xiv, 344pp. Bound in full checkered-grain red cloth over boards, with theosophical device stamped in gilt to upper board and spine lettered in kind. Heavy wear to binding, with scattered rubbing, rubbing to edges and extremities, fraying to head of spine, small tears to corners, and light soiling. Light staining to top edge of text block. Inner hinges cracking and reinforced with tape at some point. Hinges are still tender. Spine is visible at several junctures throughout text block. Binding remains sound. Small damptain to top corner of pages 323 onward, else pages are clean and unmarked. Fair. Item #10972
