London: Frederick Warne and Co., circa 1900.

Hardcover. Like the north wind gracing its covers, this turn-of-the-century collection of fairy tales is sure to sweep you off your feet and into worlds full of magic and adventure. This beautifully and bountifully illustrated edition features translations by Susannah Mary Paull and collects many beloved fairy tales by the great Hans Christian Andersen (1805–1875), the writer of novels, poems, travelogues, plays, and, of course, such enduring stories as "Thumbelina," "The Snow Queen," and "The Ugly Duckling," all of which are presented here, along with less familiar but just as treasurable tales, for a total of 67 stories, fully illustrated in a color frontispiece, 2 color plates, 7 black-and-white plates, and numerous in-text vignettes by the French artist Yan' Dargent (1824-1899) and others.

The following fairy tales are included: "The Fir Tree," "Little Tiny," "The Daisy," "The Brave Tin Soldier," "The Ugly Duckling," "Little Ida's Flowers," "The Storks," "The Money-Box," "The Top and Ball," "The Red Shoes," "Little Tuk," "Elder-Tree Mother," "The Snow Queen," "The Roses and the Sparrows," "The Happy Family," "The Angel," "The Story of the Year," "The Conceited Apple-Branch," "The Pea-Blossom," "The Beetle Who Went on His Travels," "The Bottle Neck," "The Portuguese Duck," "The Snow Man," "The Farm-Yard Cock and the Weather-Cock," "The Butterfly," "Soup from a Sausage Skewer," "The Old Street Lamp," "The Darning-Needle," "The Flax," "The Shirt Collar," "The Little Match-Seller," "The Buckwheat," "The Racers," "The Shepherdess and the Sweep," "The Goblin and the Huckster," "What the Old Man Does is Always Right," "The Jewish Maiden," "The Puppet-Show Man," "In the Uttermost Parts of the Sea," "The Marsh King's Daughter," "The Garden of Paradise," "The Mail-Coach Passengers," "Grandmother," "The Last Pearl," "Something," "A Cheerful Temper," "The Story of the Wind," "The Old Church Bell," "Holger Danske," "The Sunbeam and the Captive," "Children's Prattle," "The Silver Shilling," "The Loveliest Rose in the World," "A Leaf from Heaven," "The Girl Who Trod on the Loaf," "The Dumb Book," "The Bell, or Nature's Music."
